1st XI seal Egloshayle thriller on the final ball

May 14, 2026 · wccadmin

A nerveless final-over chase from James Penna and a record opening partnership of 142 between the Trebilcock brothers seal a famous home win for the 1st XI over Truro CC.

With 8 to defend off the final over, the visitors had every chance — but a tight bowling spell from Sam Penna sealed the win. Player of the Match Penna finished 84 not out from 92 balls, a knock that captain Will Trebilcock described as ‘one of the best I’ve seen at Egloshayle.’

“The lads showed real character today,” said Trebilcock. “Five down for not many at one stage, and to come back and chase that down on the final ball — that’s the kind of cricket we want to play this season.”

Next up: a tough away trip to Camborne in a fortnight’s time. Saturday’s home win lifts the 1st XI to second in CCL Premier.
